English 230: Introduction to Literature


ENG 230 introduces students to literary analysis through close reading and argumentative writing. According to UK English faculty, the course involves studying selected texts from several genres and investigating a unified theme or set of topics.


Students learn how to read closely how to relate texts to contexts and how to use basic literary terms and concepts. Attention will be paid to student writing particularly to devising a thesis crafting an argument and learning how to use supporting evidence.
